If the police arrive with a truck, there may be several reasons for this. If she does it to a postman, the reason is usually the same: someone hasn’t delivered the mail. Postmen are repeatedly caught hoarding letters and parcels in the basement or throwing them away in the woods.
In February 2023, for example, a Berlin woman was discovered to have mail in her apartment piled up to the ceiling – more than 10,000 items, some of which were “eaten by rodents,” as it gleefully reported. Her employer became suspicious and added GPS trackers to some letters. Finally he was able to prove the post-Bermuda Triangle in the Lichtenberg district.

Now there is certainly mail that is not very popular and should simply disappear into a black hole: invoices, collection letters and advertising letters can remain stolen from most of us.
The employee handed it over
Speaking of stolen: you can also get it at the post office. In 2018, a man was convicted of leaving a total of around 22,500 francs in cash at the Zurich-Mülligen postal center. Namely from letters with which people from Switzerland wanted to participate in the Australian Monday Lotto. It was not a technically experienced boss who caught him, but rather a pragmatic employee who put the envelopes in question on the scale before and after the lunch break and noticed a difference in weight. It is unknown how many millions of profits the perpetrator has thwarted with his activities.
A search of another postal worker in 2019 also yielded a large amount of stolen goods. The seized goods have been passed on to the recipients. But for some this was not possible – they are still in the catacombs of the authorities. Included:
- 3 Italian highway vignettes, value Fr. 160.80
- 20 Thai baht, value 60 centimes
- 1 cock ring, worth approximately 12 francs
The legitimate recipients can contact the Federal Prosecutor’s Office before December 13, 2028 and request that they be returned. According to the authorities, the cock ring is still packaged.
