The three partners announced at a media conference in Kölliken on Friday that a national showcase project for the coexistence of nature and agriculture is planned. A beautiful natural oasis is being created, says Mario Schegner, mayor of Kölliken.
It is considered a spawning area for amphibians of national importance. Ecological use is planned for the agricultural area. Swimming pools and ponds, a standard orchard, hedges and drystone walls were intended to enrich the planned natural oasis.
The local community and Pro Natura purchased the area for an undisclosed price from the landfill consortium, which mainly includes the cantons of Aarau and Zurich. The nature project puts an end to a landfill scandal that started 40 years ago.
