The state and business want to be role models

It can get cold and dark. Switzerland threatens with a gas shortage in the winter.

Swisscom is just one of many examples. The Swisscom stores are only heated to 20 degrees and the lighting is dimmed in the evenings and at night. The same measures are being implemented in the office buildings. The telecom company wants to contribute to averting the looming energy crisis in the winter.

This makes Swisscom a member of the new “Energy Saving Alliance”. This was launched on Thursday by Energy Minister Simonetta Sommaruga (62) and Economy Minister Guy Parmelin (62) – together with more than 180 representatives from companies, associations, cantons, cities and municipalities.

Addition to the savings campaign

According to the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications (UVEK), the energy supply for the winter can be decisively strengthened by more conscious consumption at work, at home and during leisure time. The Energy Alliance complements the “Energy is scarce. Let’s not waste it», which provides the population and companies with simple, quickly applicable saving tips.

The alliance partners’ measures range from reducing outdoor lighting to lower room temperatures and tips for heating to avoiding standby consumption. In addition, operational systems and logistics processes can be optimized and more use can be made of renewable energy sources. (SDA)
