‘Macron despises the French’
Statesman Emmanuel Macron has a tough political opponent: Marine Le Pen. The pioneer of the right-wing populist party Rassemblement National says: “Macron is a president who fundamentally despises the French.” In the Blick interview she talks about the French president, referenda and direct democracy.
Does Macron keep a promise with his visit?
During the corona pandemic, Switzerland accepted patients from France. Now a rumor is going around: Emmanuel Macron has promised to visit Switzerland as a thank you. But officials say that’s not true.
Federal councilor Alain Berset and Macron have repeatedly discussed visiting international events. Most recently at a meeting in Chisinau, the capital of Moldova. However, it cannot be said when the decision was made. Because the two statesmen would have a lively exchange via text message.
200,000 francs for the Macrons
The visit of the French president is worth the money. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not provide exact figures, but says: “A state visit usually costs between 150,000 and 200,000 francs.” The federal government covers these costs. More about this in the Blick article.
Security checks like at the airport
There is a check-in for officials and journalists next to the Bundesplatz. Anyone wishing to enter the media center must undergo a security check. Including scanning of luggage, just like at the airport.
Switzerland is ready
Macron arrives in Switzerland by plane on Wednesday afternoon. The Federal Council then received him with full military honors and official speeches. Preparations for this are already in full swing. The Bundesplatz is largely closed to passers-by.
