It was a bitter setback for Defense Minister Viola Amherd (61). Jean-Daniel Ruch (60), the designated State Secretary for Security Policy, is said to have been a security risk himself. Blick research showed: Ruch’s lifestyle could make him vulnerable to blackmail. This included prostitution in Swiss embassies. That’s why he doesn’t even take the job.
A replacement must be found, and quickly. Ultimately, the brand new State Secretariat – Amherd’s prestige project – should start next year. Now a new favorite has emerged: Thomas Greminger (62), as ‘Le Temps’ and the ‘Tages-Anzeiger’ write.
Failed in the first round
Greminger was already in the race on the first lap. Ruch and Greminger would have performed better in an assessment than Pälvi Pulli, head of safety policy at the VBS, writes the “Tages-Anzeiger”. Now Greminger could get a second chance.
Greminger started his career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs under Micheline Calmy-Rey (78) and negotiated with Hamas in 2005. He later moved to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, becoming its Secretary General from 2017 to 2020 and, among other things, tried to mediate between Russia and Ukraine.
The VBS declined to comment on the newspaper’s personality. The position will be filled in the coming weeks – without further advertising. (brother)
