Everyone who owns an electric car must pay car tax from January 1.

The state government on Wednesday decided to make a corresponding change in the car tax ordinance, as it announced on Wednesday. She justifies the change in three ways: First, it is important to prevent tax losses. The number of electric cars on Swiss roads has increased significantly.

Secondly, it is important to secure the deposits for the National Road and Urban Transport Fund. Third, the Federal Council wants to improve the state budget. The change to the car tax regulation is part of a plan to streamline the state budget, which was decided by the Federal Council in January this year.

Since the introduction of the car tax in 1997, electric cars have been exempt from this tax.
