Freiburg National Councilor Gerhard Andrey (47) wants to become a member of the Federal Council. He announced this at a media conference on Tuesday.
In the Federal Council, Andrey was quoted in the statement of the Freiburg Greens as saying that he wanted to advocate intact nature, coexistence based on solidarity and a circular economy as a basis for a good life for current and future generations.
Trained carpenter
Andrey has been a member of the National Council for four years. He is an IT entrepreneur, politician, culture promoter – and originally a carpenter and woodworking engineer. The 47-year-old grew up in the German-speaking Sense district of Freiburg and now lives in Granges-Paccot, a suburb of the city of Freiburg. In 2007, Andrey co-founded a digital agency that develops web software.
Gerhard Andrey is married and has two children. According to his own statements, he speaks “business fluently” German, French and English, as well as fluent Spanish.
On election Sunday, just over a week ago, Andrej was able to defend his seat in the National Council, but failed in his attack on a seat of the Council of States. He waives the second vote.
Resinous search for candidates
So far, the Green Party’s search for candidates has been difficult. For example, former party chairman Regula Rytz (61), who had to remove the coals from the Federal Council for the Greens in 2019, is resigning. The much-mentioned Genevan state councilor Lisa Mazzone (35) does not want to know anything about her candidacy at the moment, just like Maya Graf (61), Irène Kälin (36) and Greta Gysin (40). Construction director Martin Neukom (37) from Zurich and government councilor Brigit Wyss (63) from Solothurn also do not want that.
The stream of rejections so far is no wonder: after all, the chance that the Greens will get a seat in the Federal Council is small. The Greens are considered election losers, so the announcement that they would attack one of the two FDP seats came as a surprise to many.
The FDP and SVP have the majority in the Federal Council and have no interest in losing it. And there will probably be no help from the center party either. President Gerhard Pfister (61) has made it clear several times that his party will not vote out any sitting federal council members. So Andrey’s candidacy has no chance, even if he gets the Green ticket. (brother/SDA)
