Cough, fever, body aches. Chairs remain empty in the offices. The number of corona cases has risen again in recent days. The Federal Office for Public Health (BAG) confirmed to Blick that a slight wave of Covid-19 has been registered since August – “currently with a stagnant trend,” as a media spokesperson writes.
The situation is comparable between the cantons, writes the Bernese canton doctor Barbara Grützmacher when asked. “In some cantons, such as Geneva, more infections were reported.” However, more tests are being done there. The number of positive tests is comparable.
High number of suspected unreported cases
The problem: Many people can no longer be tested, and the number of unreported cases is likely to be correspondingly high. Still, the data is sufficient, says Grützmacher. “We have a good overview of the current Corona situation.” The current variants would not cause serious illness and there would be assessments of hospital admissions and wastewater monitoring.

“Seasonal flu wave has not started yet”

The next wave of corona vaccinations will begin in the coming days and weeks. The BAG recommends that people who are at extra risk – i.e. retirees or people with chronic diseases – have their vaccination again between mid-October and mid-December. For the other population groups, the risk of serious illness is low. A ‘serious illness’ means a stay in hospital.
