Fewer and shorter trains, electric buses instead of diesel, limited freight transport: if electricity were to become scarce in Switzerland, public transport would have to significantly reduce its services. The Federal Council has specified the scenarios for an electricity shortage. Federal councilor Guy Parmelin (63) presented a plan of measures at the end of 2022. And that’s what it’s all about: if necessary, we respond with bans, quotas and emergency stops.
The state government wrote in a statement on Friday that preparations for the event of a power shortage are more advanced than in the previous winter. The situation is less serious than a year ago: gas storage facilities throughout Europe are well stocked and power stations for electricity production are widely available.
Nevertheless, uncertainties remained due to various uncertainties, for example the weather. According to the Federal Council, the electricity supply situation will remain “tense” in the coming winter. Together with the business community, the federal government has therefore further developed the measures in the event of a power shortage. (SDA)
