The small room made its decision without opposition. The National Council had already recommended rejecting the initiative in May.
The initiative aims to stipulate in the Federal Constitution that interference with the physical or mental integrity of a person requires his or her consent – and that those affected should not be punished or suffer professional or social disadvantages if they refuse this consent.
The Federal Council and the majority of both councils argued that the requirement goes far beyond the issue of vaccination and would lead to significant legal uncertainty, for example with regard to the criminal justice system. Nowadays, no one is allowed to be vaccinated against their will.
