You can also expect a yoke steering wheel on Lexus cars

Like Tesla, Lexus has already developed a yoke steering wheel. The flattened handlebars cannot yet be ordered from the Japanese manufacturer, but that will change.

Last March, at the launch of the new RZ 450e, we drove for the first time with the new Lexus steering wheel, which is very different from the Tesla steering wheel.

Not like Tesla yoke

There is no special technology under Tesla’s Yoke steering wheel. The American EV brand has simply replaced the usual steering wheel with a flattened version. While this works well on the highway, it can cause irritation when making quick turns in the city.

Lexus therefore has a steer-by-wire system. This means that there is no mechanical connection between the wheels and the steering wheel. How far your wheels turn is determined by your steering input and your speed. You can see exactly how this works in the video below.

But when will the Tesla Yoke competitor come onto the market? Although the Lexus RX is already available to order, a flat-bottomed steering wheel cannot yet be added to the options list.

If you can expect the Lexus steering wheel

Lexus previously informed Autovisie that the stick will be available to order for the model in 2025.

After the first journalists took the wheel, the concept was worked on extensively. For example, the steering wheel can now rotate 200 degrees instead of 150 degrees in any direction, the brand told the otherwise well-informed Car & Driver.

Engineers expect the development of the Lexus steering wheel to be completed next year. This would mean that the year 2025 is within reach. That’s about 4 years later than Tesla. Although the two systems are not comparable.
