Preliminary energy-saving measures: Zurich residents do not have to freeze this winter

class=”sc-29f61514-0 icZBHN”>

The city of Zurich will abandon energy-saving measures next winter.

The municipal council announced on Wednesday that the supply situation on the energy market has improved. For example, gas storage facilities in Europe are well filled and there is a greater capacity for electricity production. For this reason, austerity measures such as last winter will be avoided.

During that time, public fountains were turned off, the air and water in indoor swimming pools were heated less, public buildings were no longer illuminated, and administrative employees could only wash their hands with cold water.

The ‘Energy Task Force’ will continue to exist for the time being

The municipal council had already decided in March that some cuts would continue because they did not constitute a restriction. Lighting in public buildings has therefore been permanently reduced.

However, the ‘Energy Task Force’, which monitors the situation on the energy market, will not be disbanded despite the easing of the situation. If the situation worsens, it can propose measures to the municipal council. (SDA)
