As secretary general of the SVP and national councilor, Peter Keller (52) belonged to the inner circle of power of the SVP. But Keller has now had enough of active politics. He is no longer running for re-election to the National Council.
Mitte Nidwalden now wants to win his seat with district administrator Regina Durrer-Knobel (51). She is a municipal councilor of Ennetmoos and vice-president of Mitte Nidwalden. If her party has its way, she should be the first woman to represent the canton of Nidwalden in the National Council.
The SVP does not want to give up Keller’s seat without a fight and will defend it with Roland Blättler (62). He is chairman of the SVP canton party.
Shortly before the registration deadline, the FDP surprisingly announced its claim to the seat. She participates in the race with Beatrice Richard-Ruf (61). She is a district administrator and former mayor of Stans. The race must be exciting.
Wicki’s re-election is almost certain
However, the election campaign for the seat of the Council of States does not promise any excitement. The re-election of Hans Wicki (FDP, 59) has almost been sealed there. Aufrecht’s critics of the corona measures are challenging the incumbent Urs Lang (42), and Benedikt Zwyssig (52) is also the candidate from a group called ‘impartial citizen involvement’.
