It is to despair. Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis (62) can do whatever he wants, but he is simply not well received by the population. In surveys, the citizen of Ticino regularly comes forward in government. This is no different with the recently published SRG voice barometer from research institute Sotomo. 25,216 people were interviewed for this.
The result is another gossip for the Federal Council of the FDP: Cassis finds both the least sympathetic and the most unsympathetic. He has completely lost the brief highlight of his year as Federal President. Moreover, voters do not trust him to have any influence in the government.
The new ones started differently
Very different SP federal councilor Alain Berset (51), who announced his resignation at the end of this year. Even before the corona crisis, the Minister of Health was considered a particularly influential member of the government. During the pandemic, he expanded his position. He’s still number one. 69 percent of those surveyed currently see him as the most powerful in office.
In second place is FDP federal councilor Karin Keller-Sutter (59). She is now Minister of Finance. Her big moment was the acquisition of Credit Suisse by UBS, which apparently also affected her alleged clout. After bottoming out during the pandemic, it has made up ground and is now hot on Berset’s heels.
The new energy minister Albert Rösti (55), who has gained prestige in recent months, got off to a good start. The SVP judge finishes in third place, albeit with a clear gap to the top two places. Central Federal Councilor Viola Amherd (61) follows again at a considerable distance. The defense minister has recently been able to expand her position – also because of her more visible role due to the war in Ukraine.
SVP Minister of Economy Guy Parmelin (63) experienced a peak in the presidential year 2021, since then his perceived influence has declined significantly. As with cassis, it’s a low ten percent. Only SP Minister of Justice Elisabeth Baume-Schneider (59), who has only been in office since the beginning of this year, has less influence at the moment.
Berset leaves no one cold
Things look a little different with the likeability ranking. Central Federal Councilor Amherd is still leading here, followed by the two SP players Berset and Baume-Schneider. It is striking that Berset is rated as sympathetic by almost as many respondents as Amherd. However, the proportion of those who find him unsympathetic is significantly greater than Amherd. Berset hardly leaves anyone indifferent.
While Baume-Schneider is considered sympathetic but not influential, Keller-Sutter is quite the opposite. She is considered powerful, but only ranks fifth in the likeability rating. The new SVP Federal Councilor Rösti finishes in fourth place in midfield. Party member Parmelin in sixth place has roughly the same sympathy and antipathy values.
And then there is Ignazio Cassis. (dba)
