Whatsapp puts an end to curious partners: Messenger service introduces a new function for blocked chats. The company announced this in a blog post Monday evening. The chat lock functionality offers “additional protection for your very personal conversations,” he says.

And this is how it works: A single conversation – this can also be a group conversation – can be blocked using the new function and thus moved to a separate folder. Only the owner of the mobile phone can access this folder: using a fingerprint, Face ID or device code. When a new message comes from a blocked chat, no notification will appear on the phone.

Coming soon with a separate code

To block a conversation, tap the name of the person or group and select “Block”. Locked chats can be unlocked by gently swiping down on the inbox, just like you use to access archived chats. The only difference is that you need a fingerprint, Face ID or device code to access blocked chats.

Whatsapp writes that the function is particularly suitable for people who “share their phone with other family members from time to time.” Among other things, she should be happy about adulterous or unfaithful men who want to hide conversations from their wives. But the problem is that the same code used to public unlock the phone is currently used for unlocking. That’s why Whatsapp wants to set a separate code for blocked chats in the future.

The new functionality will be available worldwide with immediate effect, but is not yet available on all devices. It may still be a few days before this happens.
