Denon X1700H: The perfect entry-level receiver

Those who delve more deeply into the subject of AV receivers usually come across the Denon X1700H first. No wonder, because the entry-level receiver offers the perfect mix of technical features and an affordable price. All the cables of your home cinema come together here. Whether it’s a 4K TV, Playstation 5, beamer or record player, with the Denon X1700H you always have full control over your devices.

Seven power amplifiers and pre-outs for two subwoofers provide good technical conditions for a 7.1 or 5.1.2 channel setup in your home cinema. You can connect up to seven devices via HDMI (six HDMI inputs, one HDMI output). Three HDMI connections even offer 8K resolution and HDMI 2.1 for next-gen game consoles such as the PS5 and Xbox Series X.

In addition, the X1700H is Dolby Atmos and DTS:X compatible, the HDMI connections support the highest HDR formats HDR10 + and Dolby Vision. There is an automatic room measurement, WLAN and LAN connections and the possibility to use various music streaming services such as Spotify, Apple Music and Amazon Music. In short: with the X1700H you are well equipped for all current and future technical challenges.

The Denon receiver only reaches its limits if you want to connect more than one TV or projector. Because the X1700H only has one HDMI output. In addition, Audiovision magazine confirmed Denon’s not so good output performance with the 7.1 setup in the test. Here the recipient “only” achieves six points out of ten. In total, the X1700H scored 71 out of 100 points.

Denon X2800H: The big brother is the best alternative

Nevertheless, the X1700H should fully satisfy most home cinema needs. But if you want to operate a TV and a beamer via your receiver, it’s worth taking a look at the Denon X2800H. The bigger brother of the X1700H has a second HDMI output and is currently included Amazon*, Media Markt* And Saturn* available for 759 euros.

In addition, the X2800H scores with a total of eight HDMI connections. Five of them deliver 8K resolution if you have a compatible TV. The larger Denon receiver is therefore especially worthwhile for all home cinema fans who want to easily switch between TV and projector without having to change the cable every time.
