The number of overnight stays increased by 12 percent compared to April 2022, as the Federal Statistical Office (BFS) announced on Monday. With approximately 2.8 million overnight stays, the pre-crisis value in April 2019 was exceeded by 5 percent.
With the increase in April, the good momentum in the previous months continued. The number of overnight stays in the first quarter exceeded the previous record 2019 level by 2 percent. This means that the industry is heading towards new highs in the current year after breaking through the corona low.
In April, the increase in bookings was primarily driven by foreign guests. The number of hotel overnight stays booked by foreigners in the month under review increased by nearly 40 percent compared to April 2022.
The number of overnight stays of domestic guests decreased slightly. In April, they booked 5 percent fewer overnight stays than they did a year ago.
