An armed attack on a medical center in Atlanta, USA, in which at least one person died and four others were seriously injured, triggered a large-scale police operation. Police said the attacker opened fire on a building in the city center on Wednesday. He killed a woman (39) and badly injured four others, three of them seriously.

The city’s police in the state of South Georgia acted together with a large contingent. Television footage showed armored vehicles and heavily armed emergency services. People in the surrounding buildings were asked to set up barricades.

The perpetrator initially managed to escape. Police released footage from security cameras showing the man holding a gun. Authorities identified the suspect as 24-year-old Deion P. “He is considered armed and dangerous,” the police warned. Anyone who sees the man should not approach him and call the police immediately.

Came for an appointment

The news channel CNN reported that the attacker came to the medical center for an appointment, citing the police report. He then got excited, pulled out his gun and fired.

A hospital official said that 3 of the 4 injured people were in serious condition. All victims are adults. Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens said the victims were all women.

Police said a car was stolen in the area shortly after the shootout and was later found. Authorities are now investigating whether the incident was related to the shooting.

The last gun attack in the USA was on Friday

There are repeated shootings in the United States that result in many injuries and deaths. During a neighborhood dispute in the state of Texas alone on Friday evening, a man shot and killed five people, including a nine-year-old boy.

Neighbors had previously complained that the man had fired a semi-automatic rifle in his front yard. The suspect was caught on Tuesday after a feverish search by the police. (AFP)
