This was announced by the Swiss Cantonal Chemists Association (VKCS) on Tuesday. Traceability could not be guaranteed for two percent of products inspected in 2022. Overall, deficiencies were detected in 77 of 507 samples. This corresponded to a 15 percent share, as announced by VKCS.
Compared to the requirements of the Federal Ministry of the Interior (EDI) on food information, in most cases there were minor deviations from the information on the product label.
Several serious violations
Serious violations, such as inappropriate or misleading use of protected descriptions, occurred only occasionally. Generally, as VKCS also explains, one percent of products are misleadingly labeled or manufactured by uncertified companies. No charges were filed.
In 2022, controls were carried out in 338 companies in Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein. A national campaign run by the VKCS in 2015 had previously uncovered an unsatisfactory situation. The VKCS audit focused on a number of Swiss foodstuffs with a protected designation, such as Bündnerfleisch GGA, Valais cured meat GGA, Gruyère PUB or Bernese Alpkäse AOP.
