In the first three months, the Stuttgart-based company delivered 80,767 cars worldwide, 18 percent more than a year ago, as the company announced on Monday. Sales in China, the most important market, increased by 21 percent.

“A good start gives us confidence for the rest of the year,” said Detlev von Platen, sales manager. According to von Platen, the automaker has grown in all regions despite the limited availability of parts.

In Europe (excluding Germany), the majority-owned Wolfsburg Volkswagen Group delivered around 14 percent more vehicles to customers. In Germany, the increase was 19 percent.

SUV models remain particularly popular with Porsche customers: Porsche sold 30 percent more in the compact SUV Macan and the Cayenne rose 23 percent. The all-electric Taycan, on the other hand, sold slightly weaker with 9152 cars, minus 3 percent.
