Its popularity is growing: Compared to 2015, e-bikes are used more in Switzerland.

In Switzerland, people spend an average of 80 minutes a day anywhere in the country, whether by bike or walking. They cover a distance of 30 kilometers. The reason why this distance has never been shorter since 1994 is Covid-19.

The Federal Office of Statistics (FSO) and the Federal Office of Spatial Development (ARE) released the 2021 traffic microcount on Thursday. The survey was delayed for a year due to the pandemic.

E-bikes are getting more popular

The distances traveled in trains decreased more than in cars. 20.8 of 30 kilometers per day was done by car.

E-bike is the only mode of transportation increasing in 2021 according to 2015 research. Every fifth house now has at least one. The number of conventional bicycles has dwindled.

The traffic microcount is conducted every five years and is considered the largest nationwide survey of population mobility according to the relevant federal offices. In 2021, approximately 55,000 people were surveyed by telephone. (SDA)
