Silvio Berlusconi, the former prime minister of Italy, is in intensive care due to a heart condition.

Former Prime Minister of Italy Silvio Berlusconi (86) was taken to the intensive care unit of a hospital in Milan due to a heart condition. Berlusconi, 86, is in the heart surgery ward of San Raffaele Hospital in northern Italy, the AFP news agency learned Wednesday from people close to Berlusconi. Several Italian media had previously reported that Berlusconi was hospitalized.

Berlusconi has dominated public life in Italy for decades in a variety of roles, not only as a politician but also as a media mogul and long-time owner of the AC Milan football club. He served as prime minister three times between 1994 and 2011. The Forza Italia party, of which he is the founder and leader, has been part of the ruling coalition led by far-right Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni since October. (AFP)
