According to the annual report released on Tuesday, the salary of the SNB Chairman, including social contributions, amounted to CHF 1,349 million. Working at the SNB until the end of July 2022, Vice President Fritz Zurbrügg received a salary of CHF 945,000 (including social security contributions: CHF 1,175 million) for the seven months he worked at the SNB.

This is 48,000 CHF more than the previous year. Salary payments continue after the end of his term, but must also comply with professional activity restrictions according to Board regulations during his six-month leave period.

Martin Schlegel, who has served as Vice-President since August, thus replacing Zurbrügg, received a salary of around CHF 397,000 (CHF 510,000 with social security contributions).

Board Member Andréa Maechler, who left her post at the end of June 2023, earned approximately 24,000 francs less than the previous year. She received a total salary of 959,000 francs, or 1,230 million, including social security contributions. She received the lowest salary in 2022 compared to other board members.

But last year, he had earned nearly 40,000 francs more than his colleagues Thomas Jordan and Fritz Zubrügg. Maechler, who was left empty-handed when he came to fill his parliamentary position last year, will move to the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) in Basel by mid-year to become Deputy General Manager. Various media hypothesize that his resignation was related to not being appointed as Deputy Director at the SNB.
