Despair in front of Migros’ fruit juices and refrigerated shelf. Which orange juice is better? Directly pressed jus with origin and additional pulp in a liter bottle. Or the bottle that says “Orange juice not from concentrate” on the two-liter bottle and “Elaboré en Amérique du Sud” that says everything but says nothing?
Both are pasteurized. A glance at the price might help. In fact, one costs 3.90 Fr per liter, the other only 1.95 Fr per liter. However, direct squeezing juice from Migros M-Budget series is not expensive. The juice, which is twice as expensive, is also sold under the special brand Anna’s Best.
Migros explains: “M-Budget juice and Anna’s Best juice are based on two different qualities. The products are also offered in two different sizes/bottles and also have different expiration dates. Therefore, several criteria affect here, especially the raw material price.”
A convincing cheap juice
This does not bring clarity. Large containers are generally cheaper than smaller ones because they have less packaging costs. Both juices should be consumed within three days of opening. It will be seen what is the quality difference in raw material.
One thing is for sure: In a test by the consumer program “Kassensturz” in October 2021, M-Budget water performed very well with the decision “authentic”. “M-Budget juice is actually one of the best on the Swiss market,” says an industry insider, who does not want to be named.
