But there are also alternatives: many residential areas in Switzerland have apartments and detached houses for rent at affordable prices.
Real estate experts at Wüest Partner have calculated the most attractive communities for each major region in Switzerland. Accordingly, Cadenazzo TI, Sant’Antonio TI and Ried are at the top of the country in Kerzers FR. If you filter by communities with more than 10,000 inhabitants, the winners are Rheinfelden AG, Lyss BE and Grenchen SO.
Mittelland rocks at the top
The calculation is based on a community’s housing costs (rents and purchase prices). Besides taxes and health insurance premiums, there are also infrastructures such as schools and medical care. Finally, accessibility is also important, i.e. round-trip distance to the next major city.
Unsurprisingly: Mittelland is on top. More than 10,000 people live in the Zurich community. Along with the Tivoli Garden, 450 new apartments are currently being built in one of Switzerland’s largest real estate projects.
Suspended mountain villages
The losers were the mountain villages in Grisons and Valais: they are poorly connected to major centers and do not score points due to low rental costs or house prices due to a housing shortage.
