A strike by Lufthansa flight attendants is causing tens of thousands of passengers to reschedule on Tuesday and Wednesday 12/13 March. The airline assumed on Monday that a total of 1,000 flights would be canceled over two days in Frankfurt and Munich: 600 in Frankfurt and 400 in Munich. According to a Lufthansa spokesman, approximately 120,000 passengers will be affected: 70,000 in Frankfurt and 50,000 in Munich. .

Cabin union UFO has called on a total of 19,000 flight attendants at Lufthansa and Lufthansa Cityline to go on strike over the weekend. As UFO announced on Saturday evening, all departures from Frankfurt will be on strike from 4am to 11pm on Tuesday, and all departures from Munich will be on strike on Wednesday. Flight attendants of the parent company and its regional subsidiary Lufthansa Cityline had previously voted to strike with more than 96 percent of the vote in separate ballots.

UFO is seeking 15 percent more money for the 18-month contract period for Lufthansa’s approximately 18,000 cabin workers and about 1,000 employees at Cityline. The union also wants to obtain a 3,000-euro inflation compensation bonus and higher allowances.

For Lufthansa, this is just one of the current collective bargaining disputes: Last week, ground staff organized by the Verdi union paralyzed most of Lufthansa’s passenger traffic in what is now the fifth wave of warning strikes. Negotiations with Verdi are planned to be held again on Wednesday of this week (March 13). (SDA)
