13. The AHV pension is a reality, now it’s just a matter of finding the money to fund it. The winners of the vote also participate. The SP focuses, among other things, on tax fairness and, finally, wants the tables to be at the same level for foreign and cantonal tax authorities. Swiss tax authorities have a big disadvantage compared to those abroad: their clients’ financial data is protected under banking secrecy, while their foreign counterparts benefit from automatic information exchange (AIA).
Andrea Zryd (48) now wants to change this with a parliamentary initiative: “We must close this tax loophole,” says Bern SP National Assembly Member in “SonntagsZeitung”. And he adds: “We need more transparency and fairness.” This would be very attractive from a federal fiscal perspective. According to estimates, a domestic AIA could bring an additional 5 to 8 billion francs to cash-strapped coffers. “Removing banking secrecy in our country will help solve our financial problems,” Zryd is convinced.
Simplifying tax returns
Everyone wants more money from the federal government: the military, farmers, AHV. It would be right to abolish banking secrecy in the country: “The additional income can be used to finance the 13th AHV pension,” says Zryd. “The money can be used wherever finances are tight.”
Zryd believes a local AIA would have another advantage. If bank customer data is transmitted directly to the tax authorities, the onerous task of collecting bank documents for tax returns will be eliminated. Withholding tax on capital gains or lottery winnings could also be abolished: the main purpose of this is to encourage citizens to be honest about taxes.
