The bedside lamp features a cute little Austronaut design. But it’s not as harmless as it seems. According to a report by trading company Connectrade, the laser light coming from the Galaxy Light – Space Projector with the word “MOB” on it “significantly” exceeds the permissible limit. Laser light is 13 times stronger than it should be. Therefore, the product is being recalled for health reasons.
The eyes of those using the lamp may be irritated. Night vision and flash blindness may also occur. In the latter case, vision may be lost for a few seconds or minutes. This may also have indirect consequences in terms of security. For example, when a person sees nothing and then stumbles.
Also sold through Digitec Galaxus and Brack
Warning labels and safety regulations in the user manual and on the product are also insufficient. Additionally, the power supply of the lamp does not comply with the current regulations for children’s night lights. Users are not allowed to charge the lamp with a normal PC USB power adapter or mobile phone power adapter, but it may be possible.
Approximately 2,000 astronaut lamps were sold between August 2022 and November 2023 through Digitec Galaxus, Brack, Manor and other small retailers. Digitec Galaxus and Brack are writing to buyers directly and asking them to return the product. The lamp can also be returned directly to Connectrade. Buyers will be refunded the purchase price even if there is no receipt.
