Valais’ number one destination for winter sports enthusiasts: Crans-Montana.

The settlement of Aminona-sur-Sierre, located high on the slope, right next to the Crans-Montana VS ski area: Russian owners want to build a super-class luxury resort here. The mega construction project in Valais has suffered some setbacks in the past. Construction work is now planned to begin in earnest in the spring. But now builders are facing more problems. They were targeted by Washington.

US sanctions have jeopardized the large-scale “Aminona Resort” project. The Russian Kogan family, which owns the Aminona Luxury Resort and Village (ALRV), will need to provide approximately 500 million francs for the completion of the project, according to the “SonntagsZeitung” newspaper. However, Uralsib bank, also owned by the family, is under sanctions due to the war in Ukraine.

The mayor is confident

ALRV director Anna Pozdnyakova said that the sanctions will have no impact on the project. But he also admits to the newspaper that some financial institutions may be reluctant to provide funds “due to the political situation”. Compliance with the standards requires banks to control the source of funds. To ensure it does not come from an approved source. The newspaper “Le Matin Dimanche” also reports on US sanctions.

Crans-Montana Mayor Nicolas Féraud remains confident. “All signals are green.” According to the newspapers, various construction works are expected to start in the next few weeks. Located on a world-class slope, the luxury resort has several hotels, dozens of luxury chalets, as well as a new ski lift. (euro)
