Further reductions in services at the Cantonal Hospital Baselland (KSBL): The pain management clinic will be closed at the end of the year, reports “BZ Basel”.
Four doctors, two psychologists, a psychiatrist, a nurse, a therapist and three secretarial workers were affected. KSBL CEO Norbert Schnitzler says everyone is currently in talks and tracking solutions are being sought.
Cost pressure affects hospitals
This is KSBL’s second clinic closure in a year. In addition to the pain clinic in Bruderholz in Basel, the eye clinic in Liestal BL is also closing. Five employees were affected by this closure. However, all of them have already found a new job, either inside or outside.
“BZ Basel” writes that both clinics are niche locations with fairly low case numbers, which are also provided by other providers in the area. It seems unlikely that the closure will create a supply gap. “The offering at KSBL was not in demand to the extent necessary for cost-recovery operations,” says CEO Schnitzler.
KSBL is in bad financial shape. As Schnitzler said, cost pressures are “tremendous” due to inflation and tariffs that do not cover costs. Just like other hospitals. For this reason, the focus should be on areas where the hospital has the authority to serve within the scope of expanded primary care and which can be operated economically. (Snap)
