More for-profit companies: Privatization of aged care on the rise

The proportion of privately run homes was 45.6 percent in 2021, the Federal Statistical Office announced on Friday. With the increase, companies offered 42.3 percent of child care slots last year. They operated 1,485 nursing homes and nursing homes.

The remaining retirement and nursing homes were publicly owned (22.9 percent) or publicly subsidized private (29.8 percent). The most common legal form was foundations with 29.4 percent, followed by joint stock companies with 24.8 percent, and both forms recorded growth compared to 2021.

The cost of houses increased by 2.6 percent to 11.05 billion francs in 2022. The highest increase was in third-party services, with 44 percent. This 164.3 million francs went primarily to temporary or casual staff.
