Fyrwald joined Syngenta as CEO in June 2016 and “has led the group in an outstanding manner,” Chairman Li Fanrong said in a statement on Friday. He will not only remain with the company as a member of the board of directors, but will also become an advisor to the president.
Future Syngenta boss Rowe now heads the group’s crop protection division, its largest business. As a “fifth-generation farmer,” the American has a “deep understanding” of the challenges facing farmers.
This makes clear that US executive Fyrwald is now unlikely to be able to complete the Shanghai IPO that has been planned under his auspices for years. “We are ready, but when the IPO can take place depends on regulatory approval,” a Syngenta spokesperson told AWP.
