Laura Di Natale (25) camped out all night in front of the Swatch store in Biel. “We were the first in line,” says Blick reader reporter. On Saturday morning, he showed up with four friends, a camping chair, a grill and sausages to pick up one of the new Swatch watches.

Collaborating with luxury watch manufacturer Blancpain, Swatch is launching five “Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms” watches on September 9. Each watch is named after an ocean and costs 375 francs.

Only one view per day

After “Moonswatch”, Swatch pulls off another trick. “Before the store opened, about 200 people were lining up in front of the store,” Di Natale told Blick. Smaller crowds also lined up outside stores in Basel and Zurich. “There are about 250 people on the field,” estimates Eliah (16) from Basel. He and his friends had been waiting in line since 02.30 at night. The 16-year-old barely slept at all.

The big question: How many watches are there of each model? “The blue hour for the Atlantic Ocean was already sold out, so we bought the yellow Pacific time,” says Wäpfli. Savaş Ceylan (37) managed to have Atlantic Ocean time in Biel. “I’m so glad, this was the watch I wanted,” he tells Blick. The night was definitely worth it for him.

You are only allowed to purchase one hour per person per day. The non-limited collection is available at selected Swatch stores. Twelve stores are listed for Switzerland, including Zurich, Bern and Geneva.

Good mood while waiting

Di Natale wants to buy the dark blue “Atlantic Ocean” watch. “The atmosphere is very peaceful, everyone is in a good mood,” the young woman told Blick.

The watch is also causing a sensation outside Switzerland. For example, videos of snakes in Vienna, Dubai, Sydney and Delhi are circulating on Platform X.
