Vodafone and its African subsidiary, Vodacom, announced on Tuesday that they want to use the system called Kuiper to expand their network coverage in some regions.
Amazon wants to provide internet from space to its first test customers next year. By 2026, half of the 3236 satellites will be in orbit. Among other things, Kuiper will compete with Starlink, the already active similar service of SpaceX, the space company of tech billionaire Elon Musk.
Telecommunications providers can use satellite systems to extend the range of their networks without having to lay cables on the ground.
