Yes, you are photogenic! How to pose correctly to always look cool: a master class from a Fashion photographer

After a walk with your girlfriends, we bet you’ll end up with a hundred or two pictures in your photo album, one of which you’ll post (perhaps in the mood). Because the other 99 pictures are obviously not to your liking: either the light is bad, or the background disappointed us, or the facial expression… Well, dubious expressiveness.

But what if we said you could take 5-10 pictures – and you’d like at least half of them? To do this, you just need to figure out basic posing techniques and life hacks for building a frame. Today we will deal with it – an expert helps to come!

Tip 1: Hold the camera close to or under your chest

In this simple way, your legs will be optically longer, and in addition, we will avoid body deformation due to a bad angle. The lower the camera, the longer and taller your character will be in the frame. Ask the photographer to kneel down and take a few shots from that height – you’ll see the difference right away!

Another life hack for those who like to control the process is to place a mirror behind the photographer. So you can see how you are posing from the side and adjust your posture.

Tip 2: Don’t stand in a static position

Straight poses in a photo look more boring than poses with angles and perspective. Do not press the hands to the body and the legs – to each other, leave “air” between them. So you can turn 45° to the camera and put one hand on your waist – the position will be more natural and dynamic. This will allow you to correct the main mistake – due to the lack of space between the body, the waist will disappear, the figure will visually look heavier and rectangular.

It is equally important to monitor your posture. A straight back is the key to success in any image. But don’t raise your shoulders to your ears because you’ll instantly shorten your neck!

Tip 3: don’t squint

In bright sunlight, wear glasses to avoid squinting. In general, it is better to organize a photo shoot with soft light early in the morning or at the same “golden hour”, when the light gently falls on the face and gives the skin a beautiful golden hue.

And that’s a fact: taking pictures under the scorching sun is not the best idea! Such light is too contrasting, it accentuates the bruises under the eyes, creates irregular shadows on the face and brightens all the bumps on the skin. And we start to squint in the bright sun.

If it is not possible to wait for better light to shoot and you want to take the picture now, keep sunglasses handy.

Tip 4: Pay attention to the background

A “clean” location is the key to successful street style photography for social media. With the help of a neat and visually neutral background, we will focus specifically on you and be able to examine your picture in detail in the frame without being disturbed by other “noises”.

By the way, do not forget to set the grid in the phone camera settings: it will be easier to create a composition and not fill the horizon.

Tip 5: Relax and smile

The camera sees and multiplies all your emotions, so try to relax. The most important thing is to get rid of stiffness. With the students of my “Content Creator” course at the Fashion Factory, we have a life hack: we ask the model to breathe evenly, direct her gaze to the side or behind the photographer’s back, and open her lips slightly.

A smile is the easiest and most effective way to get thousands of likes on your photo. If it is difficult for you to relax, ask the photographer to make you laugh, tell a joke: as a rule, it works and the result exceeds your expectations. And in ten pictures out of ten, you will like it!
