Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story is a miniseries. In short, this means that fans should not hope for another season, although that is of course not completely impossible. In the ‘Bridgerton’ universe, in which there are many characters anyway and in which even in the main series, each brother or sister is only allowed to be in the spotlight for one season, that is not a bad thing either. Every love story gets its attention – but all the other characters can still join in on the sidelines.
That said, even if we don’t get a second season of “Queen Charlotte”, the young queen played by India Amarteifio could still appear in other “Bridgerton” series – namely in Spin-offs that focus on other characters. We already suggested that in another article more “Bridgerton stories” (this subtitle is appropriately chosen to be universal) could be told on Netflix. And “Bridgerton” mastermind Shonda Rhimes has now fueled this assumption:
In an interview with Rhimes, who also credits the cult medical series Grey’s Anatomy, explained that she had no other spin-offs in mind when she first started working on Queen Charlotte. After all, this figure is “unique”. But there are also other exciting characters in the prequel: “There’s the story of Lady Danbury. And you meet young Violet [Bridgerton]. And I find Violet fascinating. And there is a story to tell.”
“Lady Violet: A Bridgerton Story”?
That actually sounds like more than just a teaser for another spin-off. But of course, further “Bridgerton” offshoots will likely depend on the success of the first spin-off. However, the stars are very good here: if the streaming numbers continue like this, “Queen Charlotte” could even make it into the top ten most watched English-language series on Netflix.
It would make sense for Shonda Rhimes to turn her attention next to the love story of young Violet Ledger (Connie Jenkins Greig) committed. Queen Charlotte and especially of course the now widow Agatha Danbury (Arsema Thomas) could then appear again, Lady Danbury could even get her own spin-off.
However, most of the potential seems to lie dormant in Violet’s story – because it is thanks to her love for Viscount Edmund Bridgerton that the eight children about whom the main “Bridgerton” saga is centered were born. Such a series would actually be the direct prequel to “Bridgerton”.
Speaking of the main saga of “Bridgerton”, Season 3 may even come in late 2023, but at the latest in 2024. With the next season, however, the series jettisons the order of Julia Quinn’s underlying book series: Season 3 is about Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton), whose love story does not appear in the novels until volume 4.
