The first numbers for “Fast & Furious 10” predict a rather slow start – especially in the all-important home region North America. Over there would open the end of the saga, which actually ushers in a grand finale, with “only” 60 million dollars. This is, of course, well below the peak of the series, when parts 6 and 8 started with about 100 million each, in between “Fast & Furious 7” even pulverized everything with an opening weekend of almost 150 million dollars, to finally reach the fourth place of the series. highest grossing worldwide films of all time (it still ranks prominently 11th in that all-time ranking).
It is particularly bitter, however, that the predicted starting result is even behind the 70 million of ‘Fast & Furious 9’ – and that it ran at a time when the cinemas were not yet fully occupied by the corona pandemic. This drop is sure to be disappointing if the forecasts come true for the weekend.
“Fast & Furious 10”: Another push from guest stars?
However, the experts are still divided on how the numbers will develop in the coming days. This reports our partner site , that some of their forecasting models indicate that the 60 million could even fall short. So probably the weaker reviews – on registers the lowest since the fourth part with a 54% agreement – which discourages some people.
On the other hand, you can noted that card orders only increased more. The participation of certain guest stars, which was probably leaked on purpose, could motivate fans of an actor who appears in the credits scene to go to the cinema.
“Fast & Furious 10” in Germany
Incidentally, ‘Fast & Furious 10’ is heading for 600,000 cinema tickets sold in this country this weekend, although the good weather can still push such a number down. It will be the second best start of the year and also better than its immediate predecessor. But, as is known, it started during the pandemic, and “Fast & Furious 10” also passed yesterday’s holiday and today’s bridge day, which many should also use to go to the cinema. But it’s also way past the heyday of the series when even millions started.
The figures thus show that there are still many fans of the car action franchise in Germany, but one should not overestimate the beginning. But what do the predictions, which look no different around the world, mean for the future of the series and its grand finale?
What about “Fast & Furious 11” and “Fast & Furious 12”?
The fact is, “Fast & Furious 10” was very expensive with a production budget of reportedly $340 million, which had also grown due to the delay after original director Justin Lin left the company at short notice. By comparison, the direct predecessor would have cost between $200 and $225 million. So the film must make a lot of money. That it will eventually become a hit is more than doubtful. At this point, the target is more likely to be clearly in the profit zone.
The original plan was to shoot “Fast & Furious 10” and “Fast & Furious 11” together as a two-part finale. But then it was called off. Still, work is in full swing on the eleventh film. A brand new duo was hired for the script in Oren Uziel and Christina Hodson.
Our prediction: “Fast 11” is coming, behind “Fast 12” is a big question mark!
We are pretty sure: after the open end of the tenth part, the eleventh film will also be continued. Without repeating the problems of the predecessor, the budget should again be considerably lower, with the returnee playing a greater role in the credits sequence, additional interest in the film could arise.
But the big question mark, in our opinion, is Vin Diesel’s recent announcement that the two-part finale may now become a three-part finale. The fact that “Fast & Furious 11” will only be a middle part and then only “Fast & Furious 12” will form the conclusion must be considered very carefully at Universal. There would certainly be a risk that such a bridge movie would send the numbers down again. Interest in the tenth film will likely be closely monitored in the coming weeks, but don’t take too long. Finally, Uziel and Hodson need to know if they’re writing a finale or just the transition to it.
In our opinion, it’s still very uncertain whether “Fast & Furious 12” will even exist – so far there’s been no official announcement from the studio anyway, just Vin Diesel’s statement.
