‘Bridgerton: Queen Charlotte’: Heartbreaking Reveal About Brimsley & Reynolds – It Really Happened To The Lovers

Queen Charlotte has a loyal servant in the Bridgerton universe: Brimsley, played by Sam Clemmett as a young man, then by Hugh Sachs when he is older, and also King George III. has a servant. We meet Reynolds in the Netflix spin-off Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story and discover that as a young man he dated Brimsley (Freddie Dennis).

However, there is no trace of Reynolds in the second time level of the series, in which we see the characters in old age. When at the end of “Queen Charlotte” scenes from both time levels are shown in one montage, young Brimsley and young Reynolds are dancing together. A future timeline cut follows – and there we see Brimsley dancing alone. Of course that raises fear…

What happened to Reynolds?

Spontaneously, as a viewer you could think that Reynolds has died. Why else would he not be visible on the future aircraft? In fact, until the end of the miniseries, the author of this article wondered whether Reynolds’ fate would be revealed, whether his death would be discussed – but it was not. But there’s another reason why Brimsley and Reynolds aren’t together anymore. The good news: Reynolds is alive. The Bad: The real reason is devastating.

Of course, that would also be Reynolds’ death, but at least the gay couple could have lived a happy life together until then. Despite the many quarrels between Brimsley and Reynolds, which had a lot to do with their respective loyalties to the Queen (India Amarteifio) and the King (Corey MyIchreest), the two seemed to be bound by a very deep love. However, the relationship didn’t last long, revealed future Brimsley actor Hugh Sachs .

Reynolds isn’t dead, but Brimsley is still alone

We almost saw Reynolds alive in Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story. According to Sachs, a scene was planned where Brimsley meets the older Reynolds. However, this was removed from the script and therefore not filmed at all.

“[Reynolds] was the love of his life and for whatever reason they couldn’t stay together. If they had met in the hallway, in the deleted scene, it wouldn’t have been a toxic moment. In the world they live in, being gay was a crime, even a criminal offence, and it just wasn’t possible.”

Will we see Reynolds in “Bridgerton”?

That the two lovers, according to Hugh Sachs’ interpretation, could not stay together because their homosexual love was not allowed is a deeply sad statement. Perhaps, as servants of the royal couple, the two were too much in the center of attention to continue their relationship unnoticed. However, since the scene with the older Reynolds was deleted, that explanation is currently non-canon – the ‘Bridgerton’ universe may also deviate from this in the future, perhaps by declaring Reynolds dead after all.

Or, what we would wish much more of course: in one of the future seasons of the main series “Bridgerton” the older Reynolds shows up anyway. And maybe Brimsley and Reynolds can rekindle their relationship to their old days – After all, the romantic series “Bridgerton” is mainly about love that transcends all boundaries…
