In the past, “LOL: Last One Laughing” has had some top notch guest stars. Surprising performances by musicians such as Heino, catwalk guru Jorge González or ex-“LOL” greats such as Anke Engelke and Bastian Pastewka have recently served to unsettle current participants and make them laugh. With “Police Academy” voice prodigy Michael Winslow, it also went international in Season 2.
But the fourth season is clearly going a lot better here: When the show curtain goes up at the end of episode 4, the British cult comedian is suddenly sitting John Clees for the assembled “LOL” squad – who looks as incredulous as probably many viewers at home in front of the screens. When Cleese with his unmistakable style also recites a bizarre story entirely in broken German, those present clearly have trouble keeping to themselves.
We want to bring John Cleese closer to the younger part of the audience, who may not fully understand the fuss surrounding the performance.
This is John Cleese
John Cleese celebrated his greatest successes in the 1970s and 1980s. As the protagonist of the sitcom”Fawlty Towers“, but especially as a member of the legendary comedy troupe Monty Python, he wrote comic history with his comrades-in-arms at the time. The dry Monty Python humor, which always walked the fine line between silly nonsense and smart sharp tongue, is still considered groundbreaking today and has been copied over and over for decades. The series “Monty Python’s Flying Circus” and films such as “The Knights of the Coconut” and “Brian’s Life” (in which John Cleese not only took on multiple roles but was also involved as an author) are still cultically revered.
In 1989 Cleese was able to write his screenplay for the crazy comedy “A fish named Wanda‘ (in which he also played one of the leading roles) even won an Oscar nominationan honor that he was denied with the quasi-successor “Wilde creaturen” from 1997 (which he himself regrets to this day).

But the 83-year-old is no stranger to bigger franchises either. For example, he joined as R (or later as Q). succeeding the late Desmond Llewelyn as MI6 Quartermaster in the last two”James BondAdventures of Pierce Brosnan. And in the first two”Harry Potter– Partially he was like nearly decapitated Nick, Gryffindor’s good-natured house ghost. The really big hits are now behind Cleese, but the Briton is still busy today, with major supporting roles in the family film “Clifford the Big Red Dog” and the Netflix Christmas comedy “Father Christmas Is Back” around 2021.
It remains to be seen if John Cleese’s performance in “LOL: Last One Laughing” can be topped again in the two remaining episodes of the fourth season. However, in an interview with Bully, the moderator and referee already promised that the final would be something very special this time. We’ll see on April 20, 2023 when episodes 5 and 6 are released on Amazon Prime Video.
