Does the new episode “The Mandalorian” refer to the great love story “Star Wars” on Disney+?

The new episode finally makes it clear that we were almost all wrong when we previewed The Mandalorian season 3. Because we all assumed there would be a major conflict between Bo-Katan (Katee Sackhoff) and Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) over the Darksaber. But what has been more than clear for a while now has also happened: Din gives her the dark sword and she can accept it, because she won it in a roundabout fight. She is then also accepted back as the leader of her old group.

Bo-Katan and Din Djarin will not become enemies – will they become lovers instead? This is repeatedly hinted between the lines, at least in this episode.

An episode full of love stories

The consequence begins with a love story full of contrasts – between a Mon Calamari prince and a Quarren captain. Anyone familiar with the world of “Star Wars” knows that the two peoples living on the same planet are enemies. It’s a real Romeo and Juliet love story that isn’t really relevant to the episode’s plot, other than being one of two extraordinary love stories of characters who find themselves together against all odds.

The second we see when Bo-Katan and Din Djarin arrive on an alien planet. Played by rapper Lizzo in one of the many star cameos in the episode, the Regent is married to a former emperor who was on the amnesty program (who is played in another star cameo by Jack Black). Here too it soon becomes clear that they don’t actually go together – here the noblewoman, there the ex-war criminal. But they are lovers without any particular further disclosure one might expect.

Crazy story with no twists – because it’s about pure love?

All in all, it’s surprising how the rather wacky episode completely dispenses with the suggested twists and turns. Is he ex-Imperial a manipulative conspirator? No, he’s just a loving, faithful husband! Surely there will be a big revelation that all the talk of democracy is just a farce if the old nobility continues to rule? No, that’s all right! But surely the droid rebellion is a rebellion against this system? No, they really feel like continuing to serve!

So what’s the point of the episode? One or the other may ask. For starters, it’s a clear nod to the Star Wars: The Clone Wars series. “Back to the Future” star Christopher Lloyd gets to praise the Separatists around leader Count Dooku in his cameo, and we’ve seen many of the battle droids galore in the animated series. The positioning of the episode as a random adventure in a completely crazy world is also reminiscent of “The Clone Wars” where the main characters, especially Obi-Wan and Anakin, also like to complete a crime investigation on some weird planet for one episode . All this is just an accessory – because it’s about love?

This episode shows us again and again: Bo and Din are getting closer and closer!

The crime investigation in this episode is pretty lame in my opinion. One other thing makes up for the episode, though. And this is probably the goal of the entire episode: Bo and Din get closer. They begin to understand and accept their differences. Bo-Katan learns of Din’s distaste for droids, it becomes clear once again how opposed they are – especially when it comes to negotiations, interrogation, etc. And don’t they even flirt with each other sometimes?

That of the “Jurassic World” star Bryce Dallas Howard The staged episode draws our attention to the fact that Bo-Katan and Din Djarin can become lovers on different levels. So will they soon rule Mandalore together (perhaps as a family with little Grogu as a foster child)? Let us surprise. The next episode of “The Mandalorian“ will be released on April 12, 2023 – it is already the penultimate of the third season.
