Fractured skull and more: reasons why British monarchs ended up in hospital

Fractures, migraines, falls from horses – things that didn’t just happen to aristocrats. Prince Charles almost went blind!

While playing golf in 1991, the future King of Great Britain was hit in the head with a golf club while playing with his school friends. The accident resulted in a fractured skull. William, who was just eight years old at the time, was taken to a hospital in London where he underwent an operation which lasted 70 minutes. After that, he stayed in the hospital for some time to recover. Prince William was left with a scar on his forehead to commemorate the incident.

In 2001, when the King of Great Britain was still called Prince Charles, he suffered a broken shoulder when he fell from his horse while hunting foxes. Charles fell to the ground as the horse suddenly sprang. At first he thought he had simply dislocated his shoulder, but an X-ray showed he had broken a small bone near his shoulder blade and he wore a bandage for several days. This was not Charles’ only misfortune that year. While cutting down a tree in his garden, sawdust fell into his left eye, forcing Charles to appear in public as a pirate – with a bandage.

By the way, the fall was not the first. In 1990, when he was 42, Charles broke his right arm in a fall while playing polo.

Queen Elizabeth II’s horse ride once ended badly. It all happened in 1994, when she was 67 years old. The Queen Elizabeth II. she was riding around her Sandringham estate as usual when her horse tripped and they both fell. The Queen broke her left wrist. She also didn’t attach importance to the injury at first, thinking that she had just been hit. The fracture was not diagnosed until a day later.

Kate suffered from severe morning sickness during all three pregnancies, but when she was first pregnant with Prince George, the symptoms were so bad that the royal was even hospitalized. At the hospital, doctors put Kate on drips to ensure that mother-to-be and baby were not dangerously dehydrated.

Princess Eugenie had scoliosis, a curvature of the spine, and underwent an eight-hour operation to correct it at the age of 12. A titanium plate was placed in the spine. After the operation, Evgenia spent three days in the intensive care unit, a week in the ward and six days in a wheelchair.

Evgenia proudly showed off the scar on her back from this surgery at her wedding, choosing a dress with a cut-out back.

Due to a serious injury sustained during military training with Prince William, Prince Harry joined the army later than planned.

Harry rolled down the stairs and knelt on a spike sticking out of the floor. Despite the pain, the prince continued through the obstacle course. This exercise ended with him jumping into the water and then Harry found that his knee just wasn’t working.

“My leg just wasn’t working. When I got out of the water and took off my suit, Will looked down and went pale. Blood was gushing from my knee, doctors immediately came running. The palace informed me that my entry into the army would be delayed. Indefinitely,” Harry recalled the incident in his memories.

He also noted that the palace press office later told reporters that Harry had injured his knee playing rugby.

The Duchess of Sussex is practically a model of health compared to her royal relatives – she has had no complaints or serious incidents. But Megan once revealed that she was hospitalized with migraines before undergoing acupuncture treatment.
