The first details about “The Equalizer 3” promise big changes: Denzel Washington has to deal with the mafia this time

In the wake of the Liam Neeson thriller “96 Hours”, numerous other action thrillers emerged in which established Hollywood stars formed a one-man army – and with great success. Since his success with “John Wick”, Keanu Reeves is experiencing his second spring as an actor, having just reached new heights with the critically acclaimed “John Wick 4”, and Denzel Washington also impressed audiences as “The Equalizer”.

The new edition of the cult series “The Equalizer” was well received and was even followed up four years later with “The Equalizer 2”, which featured another chapter about the cult ex-cop Robert McCall. But then the project stalled. And while “The Equalizer” (starring Robyn McCall’s Queen Latifah) finally even kicked off a new series version, another movie threatened to be a long way off. After all, Washington is not getting any younger and will celebrate its 70th birthday next year. But none of that matters now. Than The equalizer 3“ will be released in German cinemas on August 31, 2023…

… and while details of the sequel have so far been limited to the film’s cast in front of and behind the camera, the first details on the contents of Denzel Washington’s third appearance as Robert McCall have finally arrived.

That’s what “The Equalizer 3” is all about

Robert McCall struggles to put the events and especially his past actions behind him. His murderous activities on behalf of the government gnaw at him. Through his commitment to the oppressed, he tries, as it were, to wash himself clean.

However, in “The Equalizer 3” McCall first finds himself in a completely new setting, namely in the beautiful south of Italy, in which he feels surprisingly comfortable. He enjoys life here, gets to know new people – but the first problems are not far away. Because his newly won friends are kept in check by an underworld boss. McCall sees only one way to get rid of the mobster: He takes on the mafia himself.

Promising cast in front & behind the camera

Fans of vigilante crackers should have “The Equalizer 3” high on their waiting list – and they would do well, in no small part because of the promising entrants. Next to Washington returns not only director Antoine Fuqua (“Shooter”, “Olympus Has Fallen”) returned to the director’s chair. The screenplay also comes from a genre specialist Richard Wenkwho also provided the stories behind action thrillers such as The Protégé, The Mechanic and Jack Reacher 2.

Meanwhile, a very special reunion takes place in front of the camera: In addition to Washington, we also see Dakota Fanning this time. With the now 29-year-old, Washington once filmed “Man on Fire” – one of the best revenge and vigilante thrillers ever, if the author of this article has anything to do with it. A good omen?

And speaking of “Man On Fire”: the novel on which the action thriller is based, after several theatrical adaptations, is now being filmed as a series for Netflix:
