New Star Wars Movie: Peaky Blinders Creator Replaces Damon Lindelof As Writer

There are only a few days left until the April 2023 Star Wars Celebration in London, but there’s already news from the galaxy far, far away. Lately it’s mostly ‘Star Wars’ movies that have been cancelled. We’re thinking of the projects of MCU boss Kevin Feige, “Game of Thrones” creators David Benioff and DB Weiss, and “Wonder Woman” director Patty Jenkins’ movie – none of these plans are much left. A few days ago it was also clear that the creator of “Lost” and “Watchmen”, Damon Lindelof, would not write the screenplay for a new “Star Wars” film. His colleague Justin Britt-Gibson (“Opponent”) is also no longer part of the party. After all, the project has not been completely abandoned. With good reason, as it turns out:

Disney and Lucasfilm have already found a replacement for Lindelof! How Variety is reported to be the creator of “Peaky Blinders”. Stephen Knight to write the screenplay for the upcoming Star Wars movie. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (“Ms. Marvel”) will continue to direct. What the film could be about and what it will be called could be announced shortly during the celebration in London.

It’s not known if Lindelof and Britt-Gibson’s script, reportedly submitted to Disney in February, will be completely scrapped and Knight will start over. All we really know so far is that the ex-Lindelof project would take place after the sequel trilogy. It will probably stay that way. The start date for a new “Star Wars” feature is still December 17, 2025.

More “Star Wars” projects

In addition to Knight’s “Star Wars,” “Thor 3 & 4” creator Taika Waititi’s movie project is still on the Star Wars plan. It is not yet certain whether this film will actually be made. But there is also the streamer Disney +!

There are currently two Star Wars series running on Disney+, Season 3 of The Mandalorian and The Bad Batch. The Rogue One prequel Andor wasn’t that long ago either. A new project is already in the starting blocks: “Skeleton Crew”. Here you can read exactly what the series, directed by, among others, the two Oscar winners Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert (“Everything Everywhere All At Once”) is all about:
