Why is “Ted Lasso” such a unique series? Hanna Waddingham tells us in the interview at the beginning of Season 3

In the run-up to the third season of “Ted Lasso,” much attention is being paid to the conflict between the title character, again played by Jason Sudeikis, and his former protégé Nate (Nick Mohammed). But it is also a dispute between the two owners of the clubs. Rupert (Anthony Head) has bought out West Ham United and seems determined to humiliate his ex-wife Rebecca and their divorced AFC Richmond.

The first episode of the third season of “Ted Lasso” hints that Rebecca could be drawn into reckless actions because of this. But Anyone who knows “Ted Lasso” knows that it’s not primarily about successes and failures on the football field, but about the people. So we opened our interview with Hannah Waddingham, aka Game Of Thrones’ shame purifier, with a question about a completely different scene from the first new episode:

After the Fall in Season 2, the Rising comes in Season 3

Hannah Waddingham: “Season two is about people falling, collapsing. Season 3 now shows that they accept that and also find a way to get back up. It is also about finding the person who can help you with that.”

Hannah Waddingham: “I think it’s something we’ve had to go through with her. She ran away from him, found her strength, and now she’s like, ‘F-YOU, Rupert! You know what? I’m coming after you and I’ll get this club to fly higher than you’ve ever let it fly.” This is her revenge.”

Hannah Waddingham: “The vibe of Rebecca Welton this season is to make it very clear to people that she is the figurehead on the front of this ship. And that’s even the case with Ted. She also makes it absolutely clear to him that she wants this team to be the best it can be. She wants all of these guys to be respected and celebrated on the team for who they are and what they accomplish.

I love that Rebecca is now finding her place: she owns the club and it’s not something she just got in a divorce settlement.”

“Ted Lasso”: heart, humor and difficult subjects!

Hannah Waddingham: “I think our writing team embraces every part of life whether we like it or not, which is why this series is so successful.

We all have great days, bad days, vulnerable moments. We have days when we want the light to shine on us, but also days when we just want to be somewhere other than in the light and hide under a blanket. Our series just finds different ways to show it and never shy away from showing it. But the characters always find ways to cope with a smile.”

Hannah Waddingham: “The heart of this series beats stronger and faster than many others. And it’s still pretty unusual how our writers find something funny and heartbreaking in every scene. No one knows how to touch your heart and stir your humor like our team does.”

The third season of “Ted Lasso‘ will be available to stream on AppleTV+ starting March 15, 2023, where you can also watch the first two seasons exclusively. There is now a different episode every week. In the coming days and weeks, our other interviews with the stars of the series will also appear – sometimes only after certain episodes, so as not to reveal spoilers for the turbulent events.

Below you will also find the interview with “Nate” Nick Mohammed, who of course we wanted to know if his character is now Jose Mourinho’s revenant:
