What’s worth the wait? In 2013, “Riddick” hit theaters, the final part of the science fiction series that began with “Pitch Black.” Since then, there have been regular updates from Vin Diesel, who (usually with posts on his Instagram channel) kept hope alive for another sequel – and almost exactly ten years later, the time has come: “Riddick 4: Furya“ Should actually be filmed!
As the major American trade journals unanimously report, is becoming David Twohy return as a director and screenwriterwho wrote and directed Pitch Black, Riddick: Chronicles of a Warrior and Riddick. Vin Diesel is – of course – the protagonist and co-produces with Diesel’s old producing companion Samantha Vincent (“Riddick”).
At the European Film Market (EFM), which takes place parallel to the Berlinale, those in charge will start looking from February 15, 2023 for a studio that will bring “Riddick: Furya” to cinemas around the world. If work on the project goes well, a theatrical release in the course of 2025 would certainly be achievable. However, no date has been set at this early stage.
The plot of “Riddick 4”
In “Riddick 4”, the eponymous criminal and anti-hero returns for the first time to his home planet: “Furya”. According to the official synopsis, Riddick barely remembers his homeland and fears it has been destroyed by the murderous Necromongers (the villains of Part 2 and nemesis of the Furyans).
In fact, on his home planet, Riddick finds some surviving Furyans fighting a new enemy (so not the Necromongers?). And some of these Furyans are more like Riddick than he thought possible – whatever that means…
The Riddick series began in 2000 with Pitch Black and has expanded over the years to include two sequels, two video games, an anime movie, and more. As described at the beginning, the franchise has been stagnant for the past few years – until things pick up again.
To shorten the waiting time for “Riddick 4”, two films starring Vin Diesel will hit theaters in 2023: In “Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3” (German cinema release: May 3, 2023) he again lends his voice to the tree creature Groot and in “Fast X” aka “Fast & Furious 10” he gets behind the wheel again. The cinema release is May 18, 2023, the first trailer has just been released:
