Madonna caused a sensation at last Sunday’s Grammys. However, her performance was less important than her appearance: the face of the 64-year-old singer was barely recognizable due to cosmetic procedures.
She’s not alone, though: Aging in the spotlight seems to be putting a strain on many stars and starlets. But not only aging is combated, in some cases unrealistic ideals of beauty are also imitated. Still others have little to do with syringes and scalpels for beautification and rejuvenation.
40 years ago, the now 67-year-old fashion designer looked very different. Experts in the field of cosmetic surgery suspect that she has undergone all kinds of procedures. Including fillers, botox, laser treatments and various facelifts.
Rodrigo Alves was born in Brazil in 1983. At the age of 17, he underwent his first plastic surgery. She was the result of years of peer bullying. In 2013 he was diagnosed with ‘body dysmorphia’. A mental disorder in which a person obsessively deals with perceived flaws in their body.
Alves underwent over 100 surgeries and became known as the human Ken doll.
In 2020, Alves came out as transgender and has since called herself Jessica.
Known worldwide as the cat lady, Jocelyn Wildenstein was born in Lausanne in 1940. In 1978, she married Frenchman Alec N. Wildenstein, who reportedly loved wild cats. To please him even more, Jocelyn presumably wanted to look more like a feral cat and went under the knife. She also underwent numerous surgeries after the divorce. The now 82-year-old still maintains that her appearance is absolutely natural.
The ex-wife of rock musician Elvis Presley speaks openly about a botched beauty treatment some 20 years ago. At the time, a doctor allegedly injected her face with low-grade industrial grade silicone, leaving her face disfigured.
Up-to-date photos of the 77-year-old suggest the surgery was not her last.
Former ‘Friends’ star Courtney Cox says she regrets some cosmetic procedures. In an interview with Newbeauty magazine in 2017, she said:
After this realization, she had all fillers removed from her face.
Former American actor and professional boxer Mickey Rourke is also not satisfied with interventions in the past. He told the Daily Mail in 2009 that he actually wanted to “fix” his face:
To make up for the mistakes of these procedures, he let other cosmetic surgeons work in the following years.
The actress was one of Hollywood’s biggest stars in the late 1980s and early 1990s. She only realized that the cosmetic procedure was going too far when it was pointed out to her. She told Porter magazine in 2018:
In 2010, then 23-year-old actress Heidi Montag underwent 10 cosmetic procedures. Nine years later, she partially regretted the move and admitted to Cosmopolitan magazine:
The 63-year-old British actress thinks aging is completely natural. She doesn’t understand why so many people want to avoid this at all costs, she told The Wrap in 2022. For this reason, she speaks out strongly against cosmetic surgery.
Meryl Streep also denies ever having plastic surgery. In 2008, she described aging “like a gift”. However, experts in cosmetic surgery doubt that the 73-year-old’s appearance is completely natural.
Actress Julianne Moore does not believe in cosmetic surgery. In 2010, the now 62-year-old told Allure magazine:
Actress Jodie Foster told People magazine in 2007 that cosmetic surgery isn’t for her. You’d rather someone say to her:
