button Atlas is the online encyclopedia of cuisine and its cultural history – a kind of world atlas of traditional dishes from all over the world. More than 10,000 meals and dishes are cataloged and described there

And each of these dishes receives a rating from each user – which also means, among other things, that rankings can be made. Not only from the best and most popular menus in the world, but also from the worst.

Here are the latest statistics from February 2023:

And – oh ho! – what do we discover in the top 20?

Riz Casimir, invented in 1952 by Mövenpick founder Ueli Prager, has been a staple on restaurant menus across the country for decades. This is how people imagined the exoticism of the Far East in the 1950s: a kind of Zurich slices of meat with a mild curry cream sauce. And to make the whole thing look really, really “Asian”, a few exotic fruits were added: banana (fried), pineapple (canned) and a cocktail cherry on top of the cake.

A Swiss classic. But one that the international community doesn’t seem to appreciate…which is objectively not entirely incomprehensible. The combination of veal with banana and co. is something, well, special.

And even if you don’t hate Riz Casimir’s food, be honest – when was the last time you ate Riz Casimir? These days, when Thai curry is ubiquitous, this Mövenpick creation is quickly disappearing from the country’s menus.
