1899, Midnight Goosebumps, Half Bad: The Bastard Son And The Devil Himself, Fate: The Winx Saga, First Kill, Resident Evil, Blockbuster, Archive 81, “Tribes Of Europa” and most recently “Uncoupled”: the list of series that Netflix sold in late 2022 and early 2023 is a long time. With few exceptions, there was also audible outrage on social media. Finally what the “Warrior Wellorganizing fans plays in a completely different league.
As soon as the cancellation of “Warrior Nun” after the second season became known in mid-December 2022, a storm of outrage broke out on Twitter: 197,000 tweets called for the series to be saved with the hashtag #SaveWarriorNun, while at the same time calling #cancelnetflix to cancel Netflix subscriptions. So far, the social media campaign has been fruitless, but that hasn’t stopped fans from trying.
A new topic is currently reigning at the top of global Twitter trends: Under the motto “NETFLIX CORRECT YOUR MISTAKE”, 146,000 tweets have already been sent out, in which the followers of the series demand that Netflix reverse the error (i.e. the cancellation of “Warrior Nun”) (Status: January 17, 2023, 1 p.m.).
What are the chances of a Warrior Nun comeback?
Whether Netflix can be convinced by these new demands, however, is another question. The #ReleaseTheSnyderCut movement has proven itself that even loud and long-standing fan campaigns on the Internet do not necessarily mean that there is a large real-world audience for a movie or series. Because the so-called Snyder Cut of “Justice League” on the American streaming service HBO Max was in any case not a resounding success.
And just because a rowdy group of fans online is now demanding a Warrior Nun sequel doesn’t mean a third season is being watched (and completed!) enough on Netflix. Especially the that is, the proportion of people who not only started a series but also watched it to the end is likely to be decisive for Netflix in deciding whether to stop or continue.
However, it is also not entirely unlikely that Netflix will listen to the wishes of the fans. After the cancellation of “Sense8”, there was also a lot of outrage on the internet, which eventually resulted in the streaming service still delivering a two-hour finale. At the time (namely 2017), however, there was still a gold rush mood in the streaming industry, which now seems to have increasingly given way to a hangover mood.
There may also be the possibility of another streaming service or TV station taking over “Warrior Nun”. There have been a few similar rescues in the past, but Netflix has mainly been the savior in times of need and not the other way around. After all, series creator Simon Barry promised that he would work to keep “Warrior Nun” alive on another network or provider.
