Paramount+ cancels feature film adaptation of popular cult series – and just weeks before shooting starts!

In the US, the “workaholics” are an absolute cult. The adventures of the three total mayhem Adam, Blake and Anders (also called “Ders”) enjoyed great popularity with American audiences in seven seasons – and the series also did it in Germany, where the madness of the idiot troupe aired on Comedy Central Germany win some fans.

The joy at the news that the “workaholics” would meet again was all the greater – after all, the series ended in 2017. That must be done in the form of a separate feature film, which must be realized for the new streaming provider Paramount +. But nothing comes of it now, like the protagonist, writer and producer of the series Adam DeVine via Instagram, because the movie “Workaholics” was canceled by those responsible at Paramount + and just a few weeks before shooting started.

The film does not fit into Paramount+’s “global strategy”.

According to Adam DeVine, the reason for the film’s short-term cancellation was that the film would no longer fit into the streaming service’s “global strategy”. The comedian was noticeably pissed off by the decision and shared this statement with his fans on Instagram:

“We should have started filming within 5 weeks! P+ has told us that we don’t fit into their new ‘global’ strategy… We are deeply disappointed with this decision […]. It hurts me that I can’t work with my best friends anymore. It hurts the fans, and it hurts our loyal crew and the other cast members who are now looking for new jobs.”

Was the film made by another provider?

But fans shouldn’t give up hope that there could be one last reunion with the idiot team. In his post, Adam DeVine makes it clear that they are currently looking for another home for the feature film adaptation of the popular series to make the movie after all:

“We’re looking for other streamers and hope we can do this hilariously fun movie elsewhere.”

“Workaholics” in times of Corona

“Workaholics” was created with Blake Anderson, Adam DeVine, Anders Holm and Kyle Newacheck. The series focused on three collage dropouts who struggle with the problems of everyday life and don’t want to break away from their youthful party lifestyle.

The movie “Workaholics” would have followed the series finale and show how the three of utter chaos would have fought their way through the corona pandemic.
