It’s here – finally: one of the most popular (and best) sci-fi series in movie history is continuing once again

Ridley Scott’s “Alien” is not only one of the greatest and most important films in science fiction history, but also the launching pad for one of the greatest and most popular movie universes of all time. The film spawned three sequels, two Predator crossovers, and two prequels Prometheus and Alien: Covenant. Not to mention the countless short films surrounding the prequels released between 2012 and 2019. And it’s far from over.

While countless projects were in the planning stages, but eventually scrapped again – many sci-fi fans are still clamoring for “Alien 5” from “District 9” creator Neill Blomkamp today – a continuation of the saga is currently being worked on several times. Anyone who has long since given up hope of seeing the legendary Xenomorphs designed by HR Giger again has cause for celebration. Because for a long time it didn’t seem as certain as it does now that “Alien” replenishment will soon be in the house: The shooting of the movie “Alien” by the director of “Evil Dead”. Fede Alvarez should start in less than two months And the movie already has a title. At least a temporary one…

The cameras are scheduled to run from February 6, 2023. Like many Hollywood blockbusters of recent years, it will be shot in the Hungarian capital of Budapest. As the listing on ProductionList.com also reveals, The science fiction horror movie will be titled Alien: Romulus — which, however, should be enjoyed with caution. This is a working title that need not be final. Unlike the “Matrix Resurrections” which was once called “Project Ice Cream”, in this case we can actually imagine that the new “Alien” could end up being called “Romulus”.

Here’s what we already know about Alien: Romulus

Details about the content of the latest part of the “Alien” saga are currently being kept secret. It is already known that it will be a stand-alone film – set in the world that has been established and known to us for decades, but must also stand on its own two feet.

While franchise creator and sci-fi mastermind Ridley Scott is on board as producer, Fede Alvarez (“Evil Dead,” “Don’t Breathe”), a true expert in brutal horror, is in charge of staging. Just like in the 1979 original, a young woman in the lead role awaits us: Cailee Spaeny, known for roles such as “Pacific Rim: Uprising”, “Bad Times At The El Royale” and “The Witches Club”, leads the cast. However, there are no further details about the role of the 24-year-old American.

Almost exactly two years ago, Disney, which has owned the 20th Century Fox franchise since the acquisition, also announced the first series in the Alien universe.

The “Alien” series is being developed by Emmy award winner Noah Hawley, who has made a name for himself in recent years as the creator of successful formats such as “Fargo” and “Legion”. So the format, which, by the way, will be different from the movies because it’s set in the near future on Earth, is in good, extremely capable hands. However, that does not prevent Ridley Scott from reacting critically in advance.
